Compliance Agreement under section 517 of the Canada Elections Act.
This Notice is given by the Commissioner of Canada Elections, pursuant to section 521 of the Canada Elections Act, S.C. 2000, c. 9.
On March 26, 2001, the Commissioner of Canada Elections, pursuant to section 517 of the Canada Elections Act, entered into a compliance agreement with the contracting party, of the City of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, person responsible for the third party known as Honourable John Wise, Peter North & Friends.
In this agreement, the contracting party admits that a sum in excess of $500 was expended in election advertising endorsing a candidate in various newspapers, and that the third party did not immediately register as required by subsection 353(1) of the Canada Elections Act. The third party had not, as of March 26, 2001, filed an election advertising report that, pursuant to section 359 of the Canada Elections Act, would be required to be filed by March 27, 2001.
In summary, the agreement required the group:
- to register, forthwith, as a third party;
- to comply with the appropriate registration requirements, as set out in Part 17 of the Canada Elections Act;
- to file an election advertising report on or before March 27, 2001.
