Compliance Agreement under section 517 of the Canada Elections Act.
This Notice is published by the Commissioner of Canada Elections, pursuant to section 521 of the Canada Elections Act, S.C. 2000, c. 9.
On May 10, 2001, the Commissioner of Canada Elections, pursuant to section 517 of the Canada Elections Act, entered into a compliance agreement with the contracting party of Boucherville, Quebec, Canada, for having published an election survey without indicating that it was not based on a recognized statistical method, contrary to section 327 of the Act.
In this agreement, the contracting party admits that he contravened paragraph 495(1)(c) of the Canada Elections Act by publishing an election survey without indicating that it was not based on a recognized statistical method, contrary to section 327 of the Act.
In summary, the agreement required the contracting party:
- to admit to the truthfulness of the facts and his responsibility with respect to the publication of an election survey, without indicating that the survey was not founded on a recognized statistical method;
- to appreciate the importance of respecting the requirements of the Act; and
- to undertake to henceforth respect them.
