Compliance Agreement

This notice is published by the Commissioner of Canada Elections, pursuant to section 521 of the Canada Elections Act, S.C. 2000, c. 9.

On May 16, 2002, the Commissioner of Canada Elections, pursuant to section 517 of the Canada Elections Act, entered into a compliance agreement with the contracting party, of the City of Lévis, in Quebec, Canada.

In this agreement, the contracting party acknowledges having breached section 7 of the Canada Elections Act, by requesting a second ballot at the general election held on November 27, 2000, after registering on polling day in the electoral district of Lévis-et-Chutes-de-la Chaudière. The contracting party had already voted at an advance poll on November 17, 2000, in the electoral district of Rosemont–Petite-Patrie with the mistaken belief that an elector with two residences in distinct electoral districts could vote twice.

Prior to the conclusion of the agreement, the Commissioner of Canada Elections has taken into account that the contracting party has contributed to the works of a registered non-partisan charitable organization, the Fondation de l'hôpital Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis, located in the City of Lévis, in the province of Québec, as a recognition of the seriousness of the offence.
