Compliance Agreements
COMMISSIONER OF CANADA ELECTIONS
CANADA ELECTIONS ACT
Compliance Agreement
This notice is given by the Commissioner of Canada Elections, pursuant to section 521 of the Canada Elections Act, S.C. 2000, c. 9.
On May 17, 2001, the Commissioner of Canada Elections, pursuant to section 517 of the Canada Elections Act, entered into a compliance agreement with the contracting party of the City of Ottawa, Canada.
In this agreement, the contracting party admits that she voted in the mistaken belief that as a landed immigrant and as a property owner in the City of Ottawa, she had the right to vote in the federal general election, and so contravened paragraphs 5(a) and 483(a) of the Canada Elections Act.
In summary, the contracting party:
- acknowledged in the compliance agreement the requirement of the Canada Elections Act with respect to the qualifications of an elector, and
- undertook to write to the Chief Electoral Officer to request confirmation that her name is not on the National Register of Electors.
Ottawa, June 12, 2001
Raymond A. Landry
