Key facts of violation

As the financial agent for Hafeez Ladha, a Liberal Party of Canada contestant in the electoral district of Markham—Unionville during the 2019 nomination contest, Jani Tuomi was required, by virtue of subsection 476.75(7) of the Act, to file the Nomination Contestant's Campaign Return (Return) and required documents within four months after the selection date. The deadline to submit the Return was February 21, 2020.

Elections Canada confirmed that the Return was submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer on February 17, 2021, 361 days after the deadline. There are therefore reasonable grounds to believe that Jani Tuomi failed to provide the Return within four months after the selection date, as required by subsection 476.75(7) of the Act.
