Key facts of violation

As the financial agent for Claude Thibault, a nomination contestant in the 2019 Liberal Party of Canada nomination contest in the electoral district of Abitibi--Témiscamingue, Mario Barrette was required, by virtue of subsection 476.75(7) of the Act, to file the Nomination Contestant's Campaign Return (Return) within four months after the selection date. The deadline to submit the Return was October 28, 2019.

Elections Canada has confirmed that the Return was submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer on March 12, 2021, 501 days after the deadline.

There are therefore reasonable grounds to believe that Mario Barrette failed to provide the Return within four months after the selection date, as required by subsection 476.75(7).
