Final Disposition at Trial – March 7, 2019

Accused: Linh Thny Nguyen of Mississauga, Ontario.
Facts: On October 23, 2018, four charges were sworn under the Canada Elections Act in the Ontario Court of Justice. The charges were related to Ms. Nguyen's failure to comply with her statutory requirements as a candidate for the purposes of the 42nd federal general election.
Offence: Linh Thny Nguyen was charged with:
  • two counts of failure to appoint a replacement official agent; and
  • two counts of failure to provide the Chief Electoral Officer with her electoral campaign return, or other related and required documents.
Plea: On March 7, 2019, Linh Nguyen pleaded guilty to all four charges.
Sentence: Sentenced to pay a fine of $400 per count and an order under paragraph 501(1)(c) of the Act enjoining her to appoint a replacement official agent and to assist the official agent in preparing and providing the electoral campaign return and other related documents to the Chief Electoral Officer.
