Canada Elections Act Charges Laid
OTTAWA, Wednesday, June 8, 2011
Pursuant to a decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions, three charges were sworn on May 25, 2011, by the Commissioner of Canada Elections under the Canada Elections Act, a federal statute. A fourth charge under the Criminal Code was also sworn.
A court date of July 11, 2011, has been set for the Provincial Court of Manitoba in Winnipeg.
The Commissioner of Canada Elections is responsible for ensuring that the Canada Elections Act and Referendum Act are complied with and enforced. The Chief Electoral Officer appoints the Commissioner under the Canada Elections Act.
