Canada Elections Act Charges Laid

OTTAWA, Friday, September 7, 2012

Pursuant to a decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions, five charges were sworn on August 21, 2012, by the Commissioner of Canada Elections under the Canada Elections Act, a federal statute.

The accused will appear before the Provincial Court of British Columbia on October 15, 2012.

The Commissioner of Canada Elections is responsible for ensuring that the Canada Elections Act and Referendum Act are complied with and enforced. The Chief Electoral Officer appoints the Commissioner under the Canada Elections Act.
