When Should I Complain?
Campaign Expenses – Financial Reports/Returns
Candidates in a general federal election are subject to the regulations imposed by the Act. These rules govern how, and how much, money can be spent and set out the parameters for reporting campaign-related expenses following the election.
A candidate's electoral campaign return must be submitted within four months after polling day. The Chief Electoral Officer publishes these returns on the Elections Canada Web site at www.elections.ca as soon as possible after receiving them. These returns are accessible to the public. Individuals wishing to raise a concern with respect to the campaign expenses are encouraged to do so after the return in question has been filed.
