When Should I Complain?
The Act requires:
- that the person in control of a building (eg. condominiums) allow door to door canvassing between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. during the election period.
- that the person in control of a multiple-residence building (eg. university dormitory or retirement home), must allow campaigning in a common area* between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. during the election period.
In rare circumstances, the person in control of a multiple-residence building can prevent campaigning in common areas of the building if the residents' physical or emotional well-being may be harmed by the activity.
*The term "common areas" refers to an area or areas that may be used by all occupants of, and visitors to, a building (eg. lobby, hallways, stairwells).
