Key facts of violation

As the official agent for the electoral campaign of Rinku Shah, the Conservative Party of Canada’s candidate in the electoral district of Humber River—Black Creek during the 44th federal general election (held on September 20, 2021), Vrajesh Shah was required, by virtue of subsection 477.59(1) of the Canada Elections Act (the Act), to provide the Candidate’s Electoral Campaign Return and other required documents (Return) to the Chief Electoral Officer, outlining the financing and expenses for the candidate’s electoral campaign.

An extension of the filing deadline was requested and granted by the Chief Electoral Officer until March 7, 2022. As of May 31, 2023, Elections Canada's records show that the Return had still not been submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer.

There are therefore reasonable grounds to believe that Vrajesh Shah failed to provide the Return, as required by subsection 477.59(1) of the Act.
